Wonder Woman movie leak: HARRY POTTER star revealed as main baddie Ares

The DC Extended Universe movie is due in a few months but the makers have been keeping the identity of who is playing Wonder Woman’s main enemy under wraps.

The film had a recent secret screening in California this weekend and we didn’t even need to snare them with the Lasso of Truth.

Loose-lipped fans who were the first to see the superhero blockbuster have already started to spill details on the actor playing the God of War.

Multiple US sites are reporting that that Ares will be played by a British star of stage and screen who appeared in the last five Harry Potter movies.

According the website Batman News the movie’s main villain will be played by an actor well-known for tackling complex roles in blockbusters.

The site said: “According to multiple sources, David Thewlis, best known as Professor Lupin in Harry Potter, will be playing Ares in Wonder Woman.

“I’m told that Ares is a mix of CGI and practical effects, and that he’s the main villain in the movie. The CGI aspect might be why we haven’t seen Ares in any trailers yet. “

Wikipedia hasn’t wasted any time in updating the actor’s profile to include his major new role.

The appearance of Ares had been kept a closely shrouded secret until last month, when French magazine Studio Ciné Live revealed the identity of the Amazon princess’ nemesis.

The news was backed up by eagle-eyed fans who spotted that images of Wonder Woman action figures included collectible pieces of Ares’ armor, confirming that he would, indeed, be in the movie.

There had previously been talk that actor Danny Huston was playing Ares, although there is speculation that the two actors will portray different aspects of the role, perhaps a human vessel and the actual deity?

Wonder Woman also stars Star Trek’s Chris Pine as Diana Prince’s human lover, Steve Trevor, with Connie Nielsen as her mother Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope.

After Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot will reprise the role in Justice League, later this year.

Wonder Woman is out in UK cinemas on June 2.
