The BBC Two show saw the return of The Inbetweeners’ Joe Thomas and James Buckley who star alongside Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick.
The sitcom follows a team of Essex double-glazing salesman in the 1980s who take advantage of Thatcher’s Right to Buy scheme which allowed people to buy their council house.
Much of the comedy centres on Ed’s character, Vincent Swan, who is the suave head salesman that disregards the rules in pursuit of a sale.
While his team at Cachet Windows is made up of Brian Fitzpatrick (played by James Buckley), who can charm money out of anyone, and Martin Lavender (Joe Thomas), a failed musician whose moral stance can get in the way of a sale.
Written by The Inbetweeners co-creator Damon Beesley, the actors bring the former Channel 4 show’s familiar awkward and immature humour to the screen.
And those watching at home thanked for the show for making them laugh again after the horrific terror attack that killed 22 people and left 59 others injured at Ariana Grande’s Manchester Arena concert on Monday night.
One person wrote: “Just caught up with #WhiteGold @BBC2 #10pm , was good to laugh again after all the sadness from Monday night . Great 80’s feel good comedy.”
“#WhiteGold brilliantly funny show loved @EdWestwick in the opening scenes. Great casting including young @BobSmalldridge. Thanks for the laughs x,” praised another.
Another fan said: “I love #WhiteGold so much, just watched it after work. Cheered me right up!”
“I enjoyed the first episode of White Gold. It’s throwaway fun and quite witty. It’s what we need now #WhiteGold @BBCTwo,” added one viewer.
White Gold continues next Wednesday at 10:00pm on BBC Two.
