When is Versailles series 2 out?
BBC Two has confirmed that the raunchy period drama set in 18th century France is set to return in 2017.
Channel editor Patrick Holland said: “Versailles is coming back for a second run. I’m delighted because I think it’s great show.”
What is Versailles about?
Versailles follows the struggles of King Louis XIV (George Blagden) in his quest to build the titular Parisian palace.
Written by British duo Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft for French TV, Versailles had an estimated budget of £21 million.
The lead role of the 28-year-old King Louis XIV is portrayed by English actor George Blagden.
The frivolous ‘Sun King’ of France is consumed by a desire to build the most beautiful palace in Europe.
Alongside Blagden is Welsh actor Alexander Vlahos, as Philippe, the king’s younger brother.
Philippe was raised as girl from early age and is a very feminine free spirit who cross dresses and has a male lover (Evan Williams).
Swiss actress Noémie Schmidt stars as Henriette, the sister of King Charles II of England. The character is abandoned by her husband Philippe, and her lover King Louis.
