The pop superstar is set to make a guest appearance as the voice of a jazz musician Brendan with a crush on Lisa in an episode titled Haw-Haw Land on Sunday January 7.
Although Ed Sheeran has always dreamed of being on the Simpsons, he has admitted that his character does not come across very well on the show.
The popster, who is big Simpsons fan, said: “I think Brendan comes across as a bit of a posh English douche.”
But he added: “It’s always been a kind of pipe dream of mine to be in a Simpson’s episode so it’s quite cool.”
In a clip of tonight’s episode, Brendan is shown trying to do his best to woo Lisa by playing the piano and singing for her.
But he spoils the romantic moment at the end of the song by complaining about the lack of applause and patronisingly showing her how to clap.
Brendan appears to be a parody of Ryan Gosling’s romantic jazz loving character in the hit film La La Land.
Executive producer Al Jean said: “Lisa needs a boy who is a brilliant jazz pianist. He has a crush on her.”
Haw-Haw Land, featuring Ed’s cameo, will air on Sunday at 8pm on Fox as part of the 29th season of The Simpsons.
Fox is available in the UK if you are a customer of Sky, Now TV, Virgin Media or Talk Talk. You can also stream it on FOX NOW if you’ve got a subscription.
Fox said: “The Simpsons go to a STEM conference; Lisa falls for a crooning jazz pianist; Bart discovers he has an affinity for chemistry.”
