Over the weekend, The Washington Postreported that the Trump administration is prohibiting the Centers for Disease Control from using certain words and phrases in documents they’re preparing for next year’s budget. The list of seven words – and leave it to the Trump administration to not grasp the historical irony of a list of seven words – ranges from conservative triggers like “transgender,” “diversity,” and “fetus” to seemingly innocuous terms like “entitlement” and “vulnerable,” to, swear to Christ, the designations of “evidence-based” and “science-based.” It’s not terrifyingly Orwellian at all!
The Trumpists also helpfully suggested some substitutions that might be more appropriate or helpful to these safe space-seeking snowflakes, including replacing “evidence-based” and “science-based” with (deep breath) “CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes.” So last night on Late Night, Seth Meyers presented a list of additional phrases the administration is probably considering banning, along with some helpful replacements.
