Watch Michael Shannon Cover Suicide’s “Ghost Rider” with Yo La Tengo and ‘SNL’s’ Fred Armisen

While we’re all busy getting swoony over Guillermo del Toro’s award-nominated movie The Shape of Water, let’s enjoy this cover of a great Suicide track by the film’s star, Michael Shannon. Shannon happens to have a great voice and performs in the indie band Corporal when he’s not busy being amazing on the big screen.

In this performance with SNL vet Fred Armisen (on drums) and Yo La Tengo, Shannon sings the track “Ghost Rider,” based on the Marvel Comics character. Ghost Rider also inspired Suicide’s name, based on one of the series’ issues called “Satan Suicide.”

Sadly, Suicide vocalist Alan Vega died last year, but Shannon does the song justice. As Dangerous Minds points out, the Yo La Tengo Hanukkah shows are a New York City staple, but this performance is the first time in five years they’re back at it (at the Bowery Ballroom).
