The short clip is filmed through the windscreen of car stuck behind the two cars.
As the traffic waits at the lights, both cars rev their engines and it is clear they are planning to race each other away from the lights.
The lights go green, and both cars zoom forward, desperate to be the first to get away.
They drive next to each other for a short while – and then one car loses control causing a disaster for both cars.
It twists to the left before spinning off to the right as the driver tries to regain control.
It then drives into the car it was racing, pushing both off the road and onto a grass verge.
One car ends up deep in the trees, but the other does get back onto the road, finally pulling over to a stop.
The clip was uploaded to YouTube and received 13.4million views.
The uploader confirmed that the drivers were unharmed by the incident.
Commenters had no sympathy for the drivers, and one wrote: “Ha! What a dork!”
Another confirmed the outcome of the video clip, and wrote: “The Woodlands, TX on Thanksgiving. Both arrested after this went viral.”
The clip of the two drivers getting their just desserts comes after an angry pedestrian suffered instant karma as he walked in front of a car.
The video was taken on a car’s dash cam and begins with the driver in the car pulling up to a junction.
The lights at the traffic lights ahead are red, but the driver doesn’t brake until the very last moment.
Donning a red cap and sunglasses, the man makes a number of violent hand gestures at the driver.
He continues to make them the entire way across the road, but just as he makes it to the other side and is ready to continue on his way, something unfortunate happens.
