Vladimir Putin, 65, is the President of the Russian Federation, and is currently in his third term in this office.
He was first President from 2000 to 2008, held the position of Prime Minister between 2008 and 2012, and was re-elected for his third term as President in 2012.
Putin has been named the most powerful man in the world by Forbes for four years in a row, but he has never disclosed his net worth.
However, he was asked to disclose his average yearly salary to the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation ahead of the fourth presidential election, held today March 18.
Vladmir Putin’s net worth
Vladimir declared he earned 38.5 million rubles ($ 673,000 or £482,682) between 2011 and 2016, putting his annual yearly income at $ 112,000 (£80,327).
He also listed a number of other assets, including 13 bank accounts containing a total sum of $ 241,000 (£172,847).
Along with this, Putin said he had 230 shares in Bank Saint Petersburg, two Volga vehicles and an 800 square foot apartment in St Petersburg.
However, some believe he has much more money than the total sum of these assets would suggest.
In 2015, Bill Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management, calculated Putin’s net worth at $ 200billion (£151billion).
To give context, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, 53 – who was reported to be the richest man in the world in 2018 – has $ 121 billion (roughly £87 billion).
Microsoft founder Bill Gates, 62, meanwhile is said to be the second richest man in the world with a net worth of $ 91.1 billion (approximately £65 billion).
Therefore, it is believed that – if it is true Putin is richer than both these men – he may well be the richest man in the world.
