In season four of Vikings, Ragnar (played by Travis Fimmel) was thrown into a pit of snakes to meet his death.
He claimed he was not afraid and welcomed death as he was surrounded by venomous snakes.
But despite appearing to have been killed some fans are certain he will return for the final run of the History series.
One big theory is that Ragnar was not killed by the snakes as he had made himself immune to their venom.
Reddit user noob_lvl1 theorised: “Starting at least in season 3 Ragnar starts becoming fascinated with snakes.
“In the season that he lasts raids Paris we even see he has a house full of them.
“Now is it possible that Ragnar has slowly made himself immune to different snake’s venom and didn’t die in the pit?”
However, many others were quick to shoot down the theory claiming it would be “so lame”.
Another added: “Even if he was somehow “immune”, the snakes ate him, as we saw when his sons opened up the pit.
“And even if, let’s say, he wasn’t eaten, he would died of thirst and hunger.”

Could Ragnar really return to Vikings for the finally run of the series?
It’s not the first time it has been hinted the Viking could reappear with a recent poster shared in a fan Facebook group showing a huge clue.
In the poster, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Anderson) can be seen with a crown being placed on his head.
While the figure placing the crown cannot be seen in full, hands with shackles on them are shown.
Fans were quick to point out the shackles look very similar to those Ragnar has on when he is killed by the snakes.
It comes after writer Michael Hirst hinted Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) will have a tough time when the show returns.
He told TV Insider: “His instincts are more generous, he’s less crippled emotionally and mentally.
“He has very good intentions. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
“At the start of season six we’ll see he’s immediately faced with huge questions that don’t have easy answers.
“If he makes a wrong move or the wrong choices they can lead to very bad results,” he continued.
Vikings season six is expected to return to History Channel and Amazon Prime Video this year.
