Megan Evans, 14, was found dead at home after being tortured by vicious trolls on social media outlets such as Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook.
Her mother Nicola Harteveld appeared on the ITV show today and shared the final chilling message her teen daughter received before taking her own life.
“It was the final message that tipped the scale,” explained Nicola. “It said, ‘Why don’t you hang yourself?’”
Nicola said that her daughter replied “ok”, before she was discovered by her siblings.
The unfathomable confession brought Phillip Schofield to tears as he choked: “It’s got all of us here. Like a death by a thousand cuts.”
Holly Willoughby, who was just as emotional, added: “They don’t realise the danger. [Whoever sent the message] has to live with that for the rest of their lives.”
Nicola beamed over her daughter, who she enthused was “bright, vivacious, hugely popular, sporty, confident outgoing fiery, independent – just a normal happy-go-lucky teenager”.
The grief-stricken parent said that she only learned of Meagn’s torment from friends after her death.
“It’s so difficult to understand why she did what she did,” Nicola sighed. “She was always helping other people. If her friends were having hard time they’d all go to Megan.”
She added: “She was targeted because she was kind.”
