Tom Kerridge is back tonight with another episode of Lose Weight for Good. He claims low-calorie food has a bad reputation, and he has vowed to shower dieters and the viewers at home that it is possible to make delicious healthy food.
The 44-year-old chef has been tasked with helping food lovers to lose weight with healthy and delicious recipes, and the group of 13 have got to week seven.
Every week he offers some tasty recipes that cut the calories without cutting the taste.
This week Tom’s dieters are struggling to stay on track, thanks to cravings for their favourite fast food.
So, the chef has whipped up low-calorie versions of the most popular takeaways in the UK to help dieters stay on track.
Tom turns his hand to a chicken curry, burgers and donna kebab that will be good for your waistline, believe it or not.
To make a lean donner kebab Tom odds for lean lamb mince and diced leg of lamb. Most kebabs are made from lamb breast, which is very fatty.
Tom added paprika, onion powder and other spices to flavour the meat. He then rolled the meat thinly before cooking it in the oven for five minutes at 220 degrees.
The sauce was made with mint and low-fat yoghurt to keep calories low.
Tom also created a turkey burger with mozzarella and courgette for only 605 calories.
Tom revealed last year that he used the Dopamine Diet to lose a whopping 11 stone.
The foods promoted in the diet boost dopamine, which affects reward and pleasure centres in our brains.
Tom made his chicken tikka masala by using a chicken crown with the skin removed. He then scored the breast.
To create the curry paste Tom mixed zero fat yogurt, ginger, garlic, curry powder and smoked paprika, with half a lemon juice and pinch of salt. This is marinated overnight and roasted slowly.
To create the sauce he mixes onions, ginger and garlic, before adding hot smoked paprika and ground coriander, before finishing it off with some turmeric.
Then he adds tomato puree and one tin of chopped tomatoes. He then adds water and simmers until the curry reduces. This dish has only 640 calories.
On the diet you are told to eat dairy foods such as milk, cheese and yogurt, unprocessed meats such as beef, chicken and turkey, omega-3 rich fish such as salmon and mackerel and eggs.
Also on the list are vegetables and fruits, especially bananas, nuts and dark chocolate.
You should also not eat alcohol, caffeine and processed sugar, as well as starchy carbohydrates.
Top UK nutritionist and Seven Seas consultant dietician Helen Bond said: “Tom Kerridge has had some big weight loss results – he’s lost a lot of weight and that is fantastic for his health.”
