Time to shine: Stand out this festive season with these must-have glitter products

From left to right clockwise:

If you haven’t had a chance to get your roots done, distraction is key – give your party locks twinkly highlights in seconds with a light dusting of Superdrug’s Silver Spritz Instant Glitter Hairspray (£2.99; 03456 710709; superdrug.com). Accent an up-do or spray sparingly all over so that you sparkle under the disco lights. Just be prepared to spot the occasional glimmer for weeks afterwards.

Up your mistletoe game with Beauty BLVD Glitter Lips (£12.50; 01522 538055, beautyblvd.com), which is impressively kiss- and drink-proof for up to eight hours. For a classic deep, dark red, pick a grown-up shade like Forbidden.

Want to play with metallic particles for one night only? Cheap and cheerful is the way to go. Primark Afterparty Glitter Eye Palette (£3; 0118 960 6300, primark.com) gives you five jewel tone glitter eye shadows in a creamy gel finish without a price that commits you to the look. Smudge on with a fingertip for a lived-in look or use a brush to pack on the pigment for high-shine lids.

Finally, if subtle isn’t a word you associate with Christmas, don’t skimp, instead go all-out with boldly sparkling Disco Dust (£12 each; thisisbeautymart.com). Available in Gold, Silver or Unicorn (pinker than pink), this is biodegradable chunky glitter that you can practically throw over your face, hair and body if you fancy going top-to-toe. Use an adhesive like Vaseline on the skin and apply haphazardly for the ultimate glitter bomb effect. Because who needs accessories anyway…

If you’re a sparkle novice go for a softly softly approach and give your eyelashes a touch of Guerlain Gold Light Topcoat (£20.50; 0141 404 3747, houseoffraser.co.uk). Enriched with sparkly pigment, simply apply to the tips of your lashes or even just outer corners for a subtle gilded accent. Fancy a gold rush? Take it one step further and brush it on strands of your hair along your parting or in your eyebrows.

No, really, glitter brows are a thing – and can be surprisingly chic. Brush BBrowbar Silver Brow Glitter (£17; blinkbrowbar.com) lightly through your eyebrows to tame and shine, or build up the coverage for a more intense finish. Think of it as disco highlighter for your arches.

The easiest way to stay in control of chunky glitter particles is via a clever gel formulation, like Wunder2 Glitter Gelly (£14.95 each; 020 3130 6792, wunder2.co.uk). Available in five cool tones such as citrine and aquamarine, smooth the glittery texture over your eyelids or cheekbones with a brush or fingertip and it will “set” seamlessly in two minutes. To ramp up the glitter factor, just add layers.

Multitonal glitters are where it’s at when it comes to nail colour. Decorate your digits with Mavala Cosmic Collection (£4.95 for 5ml; 03456 049049, johnlewis.com), which features six twinkly tones sprinkled with moon dust that virtually flash in the light. The mood shifts from gothic Black Cosmic, through to Barbie-esque Pink Cosmic – the precious dust polishes in offbeat Cherry or Violet are particularly pleasing.

Glitter-commitment phobes can turn your nails into micro disco balls for one night only with SensatioNail Peel Off Glitter Polish (£6 for 14.8ml; 0121 222 5088, sensationail.co.uk). Dress up your nails to party in silver, gold or pink glitter and distract yourself from your hangover by satisfyingly peeling the lacquer off with no fear of a damaged nail bed.
