Perhaps one of the biggest elements to the relationship between the two FBI agents was their smouldering chemistry.
There were always questions over whether the two were more than just friends with the show’s producers teasing fans throughout the years.
Ahead of the return to the dynamic duo, who’ve been chasing bright lights in the skies for well over two decades, here are biggest Mulder and Scully moments.
1. Pilot
In the very-first episode ever Scully burst into Mulder’s motel room and stripped down to her underwear after she mistook a couple of mosquito bites for something alien-related.
It was their first assignment together as partners and they scene was just the beginning of the will they/won’t they moments that were to follow.
2. Memento Mori
When Scully got cancer after her abduction, Mulder was constantly by her side. It was more than just a professional partnership.
3. The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998)
After so many cases together, the pair nearly locked lips in their first big screen adventure.
But just as they were about to kiss, Scully was stung by a bee carrying an alien virus and was sent into anaphylactic shock before being whisked away by some shadowy men.
4. Millennium
Who doesn’t like a New Year’s kiss? After stopping the apocalypse and fighting off zombies, the pair shared a kiss as they saw in the new millennium.
5. Small Potatoes
Again we nearly saw the dynamic duo going in for a kiss before Mulder burst into Scully’s apartment. It turned out that a face-shifting man had assumed his identity and tried to make a move on Scully.
6. Triangle
If ever there was proof needed that Mulder was indeed in love with Scully, then The X-Files meets Titanic via the Bermuda Triangle episode was it.
At the end of Triangle, Mulder told Scully that he was in love with her, shortly after being rescued from sea.
He’d jumped off a ship stuck in a parallel universe in the 1930s.
Before he abandoned ship to get back to the Noughties he kissed Scully’s 1930s doppelgänger and got a right hook for it.
7. William
So after all their adventures with aliens, Mulder and Scully ended up having a baby together named William after her father.
At the end of the episode the pair shared a kiss as she held their son. It was pretty much the last episode ever before the end of the show.
8. How the Ghosts stole Christmas
This X-Files festive-themed episode saw the two agents investigated a haunted house where murder suicides had been happening for years.
It emerged that the former inhabitants of the house were knocking off unwitting couples with their mischievous phantom trickery.
Lucky for us they didn’t manage to get the dynamic duo despite trying to convince the pair to enter into a suicide pact.
9. The Post-Modern Prometheus
Comic book geeks, a mob of angry villagers, Jerry Springer and Cher all in the same episode – what more could you want?
Possibly one of the best shipper moments of all time saw Mulder and Scully dancing to Cher’s cover of Walking in Memphis in this Frankenstein homage shot in black-and-white.
10. Arcadia
Mulder and Scully took things to the next level when they went undercover as a married couple as part of a monster-of-the-week story.
