When will the Witcher be released on Netflix?
Sadly for fans, it is unlikely that the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher Saga books will get a release this year.
The streaming giant announced last May that it had started working on the script, in conjunction with Polish production company Platige Image.
The series will based on the fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Sapkowski wrote the first book in The Witcher series in 1993 and it has inspired several adaptations across all forms of media.
2001 Polish movie The Hexer is based months series as well as a 2002 television series of the same name.
The Witcher video games have legions of fans all over the world also.
The Netflix adaptation is set to be the biggest production based on the original concept yet.
“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” Sapkowski said.
“I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
Who will be in the cast of The Witcher on Netflix?
No official line up has been announced by Netflix yet, but there’s no short of speculation online as to who could portray the beloved characters.
The series is led by protagonist Geralt of Riva, who is known for his signature icy long blonde hair.
Some fan favourites for the role thus far include Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen.
Viking’s star Travis Fimmel has also been touted for the role.
Game of Thrones’ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is also a popular choice.
The actor is best known for playing Jaime Lannister on the HBO series and his blonde locks might have something to do with why fans think he would make a good Geralt.
Charlie Hunnam from Son’s of Anarchy has also been given the nod online.
One actor who many fans would love to see as Geralt is Zach McGowan from Black Sails.
Reddit user theredviper17 said: “I think Zach McGowan would do an incredible job.”
Another added: “My dream actor for Geralt is Zach McGowan who plays Charles Vane on Showtime’s Black Sails.”
Australian actor Luke Arnold has been widely suggested for the role of Dandelion.
Another major character in the saga is Vesemir.
Vesemir is Geralt’s father figure and the most elder Witcher.
Star Wars’ Marl Hamill has even suggested himself that he be cast in this role.
Responding to a tweet about Vesemir form the series’ writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, he tweeted: “I have no idea what this is or what it’s about but agree it could/should be played by me.”
Is there a trailer for The Witcher on Netflix?
There is no trailer yet as production is still in the very early stages.

The Witcher is expected to be released on Netflix next year.
