The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Lauren Cohan to RETURN after mysterious exit?

After almost a decade on The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) will see his final moments on the show this weekend.

And as many viewers and fans prepare the tissues as the emotional scenes air, they may need to keep the box nearby as Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) may be next to leave.

Earlier this year it was reported that Maggie will be making a shock exit not long after Rick’s.

However since the supposed leak, not a lot has been revealed by AMC or The Walking Dead producers.

Lauren recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming exit, and whether she would be willing to return to the post-apocalyptic zombie show.

Cryptically, she said: “I just don’t think it’s possible for me to know that right now.

“The cool thing is that I don’t have to. The right thing is gonna show itself to me.

“Here’s the thing: I could say: ‘This is gonna happen, that’s gonna happen, this is what I hope.’ But the truth is I can only do what’s in front of me.”

An imminent return for Maggie seems extremely unlikely, as Lauren has recently signed up to a brand new spy comedy show titled Whiskey Cavalier.

Despite this, she seems eager to keep the door open to The Walking Dead and her character Maggie.

Lauren went on to add: “We have had creative story conversation about what could happen with the character, and that’s all I know.”

Although this seems like an extremely cryptic piece of information, it actually gives viewers quite a hint at what may happen.

Rick’s exit has been vehemently marketed as his last show ever, supposedly confirming the character will be killed off.

But if Maggie’s Lauren is already speaking about the potential to return to the show, could this confirm she will not be killed in her exit?

If she does survive the reason for her exit is still surrounded in mystery.

Rick’s final scenes have also been teased cryptically throughout season nine.

A trailer was released last month which showed off some of Rick’s scenes, and brought back a number of familiar faces.

These moments include an interaction with Shane (Jon Bernthal), and a return to the first ever scenes hospital.

But will fans see Rick become a walker after these visions?

The Walking Dead season nine continues next Sunday on AMC and next Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK. Seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOW TV.
