After the release date was finally confirmed this week, the first trailer dropped during today’s San Diego Comic-con.
Naturally, the “all out war” the cast and crew have been teasing is the overriding theme throughout, but the closing moments allude to a monumental move for The Walking Dead – a time jump.
Elsewhere, it’s not looking good for Gabriel Stokes (played by Seth Gilliam), as the trailer begins with a very awkward confrontation between the priest and barbarian Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
The trailer comes just moments after creator Robert Kirkman announced huge news regarding the end of The Walking Dead, suggesting the end is in sight.
“I think about two or three years ago, I had a pretty good idea for a definitive ending,” Robert told fans. “I have known that since then and been working towards that, so I know exactly where I’m going and what’s gonna happen when I get there.”
When will The Walking Dead season 8 start? Release date, cast and more
He continued: “I’m working toward that but it’s a very long way off. I feel like having an ending helps.
“I feel like the book, since I know it’s going to be such a long journey, we’re always building to something and there’s always something new that can happen and you really have to do a lot of planning, especially at this point.
“It’s actually more difficult to write The Walking Dead than it’s ever been, because we’ve done a lot of stuff.”
What’s more, he confirmed that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) will not make it to the final episode.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 22 while UK viewers will be able to watch season eight on FOX UK.
