Lennie James, who plays Morgan Jones in the hit AMC show, hinted that the baseball-wielding character (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would get his just desserts.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk. the 51-year-old British actor was asked if Negan would get his comeuppance, leading him to suggest that he would.
“I don’t know how to answer that. He’ll probably get some version of a comeuppance, this being He’ll probably get some version of a comeuppance, this being The Walking Dead. I think it might be you want but not what you expect The Walking Dead. I think it might be you want but not what you expect,” he explained.
On whether would finally get killed off and his reign of brutality brought to an end, Lennie said: “My only comment would be, it’s a bit early for all that.
“He’s only just landed. In the comic books – in the graphic novels that the series is based on – Negan’s around for a little bit, so I don’t know.
“Sometimes we go by the comic book and sometimes we don’t. But I’d imagine season eight starts with our 100th episode.
“The 100th episode of the comics was the introduction of Negan, so I don’t know. But my guess is it would be so early to see the demise of Negan but I might be wrong.”
The Walking Dead will be landing next month and premiering with its 100th episode, which is set to be an explosive affair as the battle lines are drawn and war begins.
Only today a synopsis was released of the landmark episode which has strangely been called Mercy, hinting at a different tone to the series.
The episode brief reads: “Rick and his group, along with the Kingdom and Hilltop, have banded together to bring the fight to Negan and the Saviors.”
However, could the name of the instalment suggest that Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group could spare Negan?
Reflecting on reaching the 100th episode, Lennie admitted that he was surprised that the show had been running for eight years.
As fans will remember, Morgan featured in the very first episode of The Walking Dead way back in 2010 before dipping in and out of the show and later becoming a fully established regular.
He described the phenomenal global success of The Walking Dead – which is the second biggest show in the world after Game of Thrones – as simply “staggering”.
Lennie said it was even more of a feat given that he was part of a zombie show when vampires dominated the film and TV landscape with Twilight fever gripping box offices the world over and HBO’s True Blood ruled the roost on the small screen.
Teasing the season eight premiere, Lennie said: “I think the 100th episode kicks a*** more and it’s going to be loud, it’s going to be fast, it’s going to be scary and it’s not going to hang about for the beginning of it.
“We’re right in the middle of it as we start. It’s full-on action really almost from the off and introducing you to how this battle is going to be fought.”
