The Walking Dead season 8 spoilers: Has Negan’s replacement been REVEALED?

In episode 10 of , fans of the zombie series saw the Saviors member Simon (played by Steven Ogg) defy Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) orders as he murdered the Scavengers in front of their leader Jadis (Pollyanna Macintosh).

Ever since, fans have speculated that Simon could take over as leader of the Saviors and even kill Negan.

Now Steven Ogg, who stars as Simon, has spoken out about the tension between his character and Negan and quashed speculation that he is eyeing up the villain’s role as head of the Saviors.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the actor said: “I mean there is obviously some disagreement between them but I think Simon believes what he did is the best course of action at this point.

“We’ve been trying, what you Negan have been trying to this amount of time, and where have we gotten? Kind of f**king nowhere.

“So Simon is kind of like, ‘Okay, action time, let’s get this moving, let’s get this going.’”

He went on to add: “[Simon] would rather come back to Negan and Negan be like, ’You disobeyed me,’ and Simon say, ‘Yeah but we’re further ahead now,’ and explain it on the back end as opposed to trying to explain it to Negan at the front and disagree.

“You know, people say early on you didn’t see Simon and Negan together at all and that’s because Simon was trusted.

“They have all of these outposts and he was out there doing his thing. We don’t know what he was doing but he was getting the job done because he was trusted.

“So think it’s more that they obviously might have a bit of an argument but I don’t think it is a big concern.”

Steven concluded: “I don’t know about civil discourse between them but there’s obviously mutual respect.

“That’s why Simon continues to be there and why Simon continues to be his right-hand man. There’s obviously some respect for what the other can do which is why they’re both together.

His comments come ahead of , which will see the Saviors plan to scare the Alexandrians at The Hilltop.

In a teaser for the next instalment, Simon can be heard telling the Saviors: “Todays is about scaring these people. Hit a few, let them turn. Don’t kill them. For Negan!”

Meanwhile at The Hilltop, Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) can be seen telling one of her followers: “Are people ready? Do they know what to do?”

The Walking Dead airs Mondays on FOX UK at 9pm.
