This week’s episode of The Walking Dead saw a desperate Jadis (played by Pollyanna McIntosh) confirming her knowledge of the mysterious helicopter.
Whilst enthralled in a confrontation with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jadis resorted to lighting a flare to notify the overhead helicopter of her whereabouts.
This hinted that she may have had more to do with the vehicle than initially expected.
However this interaction also confirmed that Negan had no idea that the helicopter was around, as he uttered “what the s**t” upon seeing it.
But fans have become obsessed with trying to find out where exactly it came from, and some intelligent Redditors have even found themselves analysing Google Maps to figure out the helicopter’s range.
One tumultuous Reddit user mapped out the whereabouts of Alexandria, and where the helicopter could conceivably be coming from.
The fan wrote: “We know Alexandria is in ‘Alexandria.’ I am assuming the helicopter we see in 8.14 is a UH-1. They have a range of 197 miles.
“If we put a pointer in the centre of the town of Alexandria, VA, the map below shows how far a UH-1 can fly and return home safely (assuming full tank of fuel).”
He went on to theorise that the helicopter could be coming from Columbus, Ohio – even thought it’s a little out of range.
However other fans argued that the helicopter’s range shouldn’t be taken into consideration, with one saying: “You really think the writers would take into account the helicopter’s range? with the way things have been going lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if it reached South America.”
Comic book fans will know that Columbus is where the Commonwealth was located in the original run of The Walking Dead.
This theory could also be backed up further with the recent introduction of Jayne Atkinson’s character Georgie.
Georgie strongly resembles the comic book character Pamela Milton, who is the Governor of the Commonwealth.
Georgie was introduced into the show in episode twelve titled The Key, where she revealed that she has founded a number of communities throughout the apocalypse.
Jayne even alluded to the possibility of her character secretly helming the Commonwealth when she told ComicBook.com: “It is possible because clearly when they ask her about whether or not, has she done this with other people?
“She had clearly been doing a scouting process to find out about these different groups. She’s clearly been around. So it could very well be.”
Another Redditor theorised something entirely different, suggesting that the helicopter is constantly moving.
They theorised: “Here’s a curve ball: the helicopter is based from an air craft carrier in the ocean. Walkers would be easy to control and prevent while on a large military vessel. Would easily last this long.”
With two episodes left in the current season, fans are sure to find out the truth about the helicopter and Georgie within the coming weeks.
The Walking Dead airs Monday on FOX at 9pm.
