Executive producer Greg Nicotero has hinted that Morgan (played by Lennie James) may not be leaving the series when The Walking Dead season eight comes to a close.
Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, he said that he isn’t completely sure when Morgan’s exit from Alexandria will be played out.
When asked if fans can expect to watch his departure this season, Greg teased: “I don’t know actually…
“I haven’t seen the last couple of episodes. I’m not sure.”
Has Greg just revealed that fans of the zombie series will have to wait until season nine to find out how and why he leaves Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his followers?
Going on to speak about what actor Lennie is like on set, Greg admitted he was terrified of the star at first.
“He’s so talented and one of the days we were on set and we were just kind of shooting the s**t and he said, ‘You know, I have just had the best time working with you.’
“And I said, ‘Dude you scared the s**t out of me when we first started working together.’
“He showed up on set and was looking out on set at his wife who is a walker and he’s just got tears streaming down his face.
“He’s wiping his eyes and I said to him, ‘That’s the moment I knew The Walking Dead was something special.’”
Greg added: “There was so much power and emotion in that moment.”
It comes after Lennie opened up on his move to Fear The Walking Dead.
He explained: “At the beginning of every season you have to sit down with Scott Gimple and he tells you what the arc of this season is going to be and what your character’s arc is going to be.
“You mostly don’t listen to anything he’s saying because you just want to know whether or not you’re going to die.
“A couple of days later he phoned me up, said he forgot to talk to me about something and would I come back.
“So, I drove to his house thinking he forgot to tell me I’m dying.”
Lennie went on to tell Digital Spy: “I got there, I sat down, I got a bottle of water and he said, ‘By the way, this is not a conversation about you dying.’
“He said, ‘How would you like to continue the story of Morgan in Fear The Walking Dead?’
“At the end of the conversation Scott said that he was sure I had loads of questions and, to be honest, I probably did but I couldn’t bring a single one of them to my lips. He asked what I wanted to do and all I was that said I was just going to leave and get back to him.”
After much deliberation, Lennie said he decided to accept the option and Morgan is set for some massive changes.
The Walking Dad concludes Monday on FOX at 9pm while Fear the Walking Dead returns 23rd April at 9pm on AMC on BT TV.
