Both the cast and crew have revealed that they were left devastated when they learned Carl (played by Chandler Riggs) would be killed off when the series returns.
But fans of The Walking Dead have come up with several theories that suggest he could survive the bite, which would turn him into a zombie.
Now Christian Serratos, who stars as Rosita, has waded in on the discussion and hinted the teen may make it to the end of season eight after all.
Speaking to exclusively to Express.co.uk, the actress revealed her first thoughts when she learned of Carl’s walker bite.
“I was a little surprised but I think that’s what makes the show so great,” she said.
“I am also a fan and I am also kept on my toes. You know these are tidbits that we’re not privy to.
“I feel like a lot of people are under the impression that we’re a lot more involved in storylines but we received that storyline not too far ahead of when we shot it.”
Christian continued: “So, it’s interesting for us to get the information as well.”
When probed about whether or not she had read any theories about Carl surviving, she referenced Herschel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) survival after being bitten by a walker.
“I’ve not heard any speculation on that but anything is possible,” the 27-year-old said.
“I mean, wasn’t it Herschel that was saved? He survived so, you know, anything is possible.”
It comes after Christian insisted that The Walking Dead’s group of survivors, the Alexandrians, will defeat Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
She teased: “I absolutely think that the Alexandrians have it in them to defeat Negan.
“Do they do it? That’s what we’ll see in the second half.
“They have it in them. They know what a family they are and how determined they are and what people do to keep them safe and how many people will kill to keep their loved ones safe.”
The Walking Dead returns to AMC this Sunday and airs the following day on FOX UK the following day at 9pm.
