The Walking Dead season 7: Is Eugene planning to kill Negan?

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a potential clue in Monday’s episode which could foreshadow a dramatic head-to-head between Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and unassuming Eugene (Josh McDermitt).

As Eugene sat down to enjoy some time on an Atari console playing Yars’ Revenge, fans have wondered if this game was consciously chosen by the production team.

During the game, the tiny player (Yar) must defeat the huge villain Qotile by first breaking down a barrier shield.

The interesting note about Yars’ Revenge is that Qotile can kill you at any point, but the player must break the barrier to kill the baddie, just as well-guarded Negan threatens certain death at any moment.

While fans were disappointed in Eugene for seemingly bowing down to Negan’s threats by the end of the episode, some are hoping that this is all just a ploy to bring the Savior boss down from the inside.

After all, Eugene was keen to sacrifice his life at the end of the season six finale for the sake of the Alexandrians.

Fans will also recall how wily Eugene was when he was introduced in the show, convincing Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) to protect him because he had a cure for the zombie disease, which was of course, a lie.

It seems entirely plausible that Eugene is back to his old tricks, making everyone think he is too scared to take actions as brave as Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) but is actually plotting from the inside.
