Tonight’s instalment of the BBC crime thriller took even more twists and turns, and in a chilling final scene it appeared viewers finally got a glimpse of the real killer – Eddie J. Turner.
Anna (played by Kelly MacDonald) disappeared even further down the rabbit hole following a difficult trial at the court, and the mother-of-two was left questioning her relationship and her sanity.
The character decided to visit her husband, where she told him she wished the real Eddie was actually dead, and she’d lied in court.
But just as she was sharing the truth of her dark thoughts, her friend in the force happened upon a startling discovery.
Craig Myers’ (James Harkness) friend Tom suddenly appeared in the cafe where Eddie was due to be meeting his social worker, prompting viewers to believe his identity had been revealed.
In the preview for the next episode, Anna could be seen in shock as her friend told her the news.
“Craig Myers is not Eddie J Turner,” the woman declared.
Horrified as the words began to sink in, Anna cried: “You’re lying!”
But the woman was having none of it, warning the mother-of-two: “I saw him Anna.
“We have ruined an innocent man’s life!”
Taking to Twitter, some viewers were actually convinced there was a further twist to come in the tale, and Craig remains Liam’s killer.
“Wonder if Craig and Tom are brothers and both changed names? #TheVictim best thing on tv for ages! Roll on tomorrow!” one person posted.
Another wrote: “I still think Craig is Eddie, not the friend. #thevictim.”
“Tense stuff but is it definite that Tom is the one? #TheVictim,” a third asked.
While a fourth speculated: “If the ex-husband doesn’t kill Craig, have got a horrible feeling he’s going to kill himself. #TheVictim.”
“It’s Tom, the friend. It has to be. He’s too fidgety #TheVictim,” a fifth added, followed by: “Knew it was the friend when the chef said about the second man in the cell!!!!! #TheVictim.”
Fans continued to share their shock over the twist, with one person exclaiming: “So it’s Tom who’s Eddie J Turner! #thevictim.”
“I reckon the daughter’s boyfriend tried to kill Craig Myers but I haven’t got a clue who EJT is. Don’t think it’s the bloke in the cafe. Great telly,” another added.
The Victim concludes tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
