Leading lady Robinson is radiant and ravishing in a role that deserves to be her breakout.
Her character Elaine charms and seduces the men on screen and the audience alike. She is witty, whimsical, sexy and sinister.
The Love Witch is a lusty and lavish love letter to the bygone era of 1960s sexploitation and low-budget horror that is like noting else in cinemas today.
Shot on old-fashioned 35mm film with sets and costumes creating a retro collage of bright colours in soft focus, the film effortlessly conjures up warm feelings of naughty nostalgia.
However it is not just a homage to the past, The Love Witch is also bursting with sly modern commentaries on narcissism, femininity and feminism.
Behind the bejewelled curtain, Anna Biller showcased her talent as director, writer, composer and designer – juggling the roles with impressive ease, expertise and precision.
Feminism and sexuality have often been in disagreement as of late, with critics quick to argue whether the latter’s expression is empowerment, or further evidence of patriarchal shackles.

“You might say, I’m addicted to love” admits Elaine (Samantha Robinson), a young witch perhaps best described as a mid-way point between hopeless romantic and succubus.
No man is off limits for the spells conjured in her interestingly-fashioned gothic apartment, although their potency defies expectations – leaving a string of hapless, broken victims in her wake.
When she finally finds true love however, what will become of the woman who herself has driven many a man over the brink?
The Love Witch is coming to UK Cinemas, Digital Download and VOD on March 10
