The Little Mermaid live-action movie: FIRST LOOK at new trailer of the classic fairy tale

While the new trailer is, at time of writing, No 1 for trending on YouTube, it is not in fact the upcoming Disney remake.

This independent adaptation comes from Conglomerate Media and Kingsway Productions, with a completely different story to that of the 1989 animated Disney version.

The Little Mermaid sees a reporter take his little sister to a small town on the Mississippi River to find a woman who is rumoured to be a real mermaid.

The trailer for what looks like a low budget production includes some singing and a Dumbo-style ringmaster as the villain.

The Little Mermaid says: “He took a part of me and he has it still.

While her friend adds: “She can’t leave without her soul. If she does, she dies.”

Despite this new live action adaption of the Hans Christian Anderson tale,

Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda is currently hard at work on the music, with original composer Alan Menken, having already provided the music for Disney’s Moana.

Speaking to Vulture, he said: “If this requires new music, I’m here for that, and if this requires me weighing in on who makes this thing, I’m here for that.”

It’s also possible he could have a role in the remake, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
