The Island with Bear Grylls: Fans heartbroken as contestant sent home after brutal injury

It was an eventful episode of The Island with Bear Grylls as the members of the team were at each other’s throats.

Shereen was the centre of attention this evening as she took on the rest of her crew over which scraps of chicken meat she wanted.

But while Shereen was fighting for food, Ben was reminiscing about his life at home after 35 days on the island.

He revealed a heartbreaking story about how he had recently split up with his wife and he was participating in the show to make his children proud.

Ben has obviously come a long way as he took on an authoritative role in his final venture out into the jungle.

However disaster quickly struck as he got his team lost in the labyrinth of the trees.

As he eventually made his way back to the camp he groaned: “I’m never going back into that jungle.

“Call me what you want, I don’t give a f**k.”

Defeated, Ben went back to foraging for food in the usual areas.

But the situation was about to get a lot worse for him, as he absentmindedly hit a stick, splitting it open.

As he did this a splinter bounced into his eye, grazing it.

Yelling out in pain he rushed to the beach to find the resident doctor – Shereen.

She quickly announced that his eye was severely damaged and the injury should be treated seriously.

She added: “It’s a dirty environment, everybody’s hands are dirty – it’s such a risk.”

Much to his dismay, Ben was sent home for the sake of keeping his vision.

But viewers on Twitter were devastated.

Fans quickly spoke out, with one saying: “Ben made the right decision to leave #TheIsland. Hope he made a full recovery and that there was no permanent damage to his sight. #sightcare.”

Another added: “Aww poor Ben, gutted he didn’t make it to the end #TheIsland.”

“#theisland Ben, that’s so sad. Heart Breaking,” mused a third.

A final viewer said: “Sad to see ben go just as he was finding his feet. #TheIsland.”

Shortly after his exit, the team went home as they finished their 35 days on the show.

Bear Grylls commended their performance and said: “I think you’re amazing, I really do. Put the fire out, go home.”
