The Greatest Showman Broadway musical? Hugh Jackman SPEAKS OUT on possibility of live show

The movie musical has been something of a surprise smash hit, having made over $ 400 million worldwide on a budget of just $ 84 million.

Not only that but the The Greatest Showman soundtrack album has gone platinum and remained UK No 1 album for the last 11 weeks – a record shared only with Adele’s 21 for the last 30 years.

With such success surely Fox isn’t done with PT Barnum?

Forbes asked the film’s star Jackman himself if there’s any chance of a Broadway adaptation of the movie.

Jackman replied: “We were talking about a live version of the show even before [the movie] came out.

“There was a discussion at one point in the eight-year journey of this movie of maybe going live first.

“I remember Stacey Snider calling me and saying, ‘Maybe we go live first.’

“When Keala Settle got up, stood in the middle of a room and sang ‘This Is Me,’ with no makeup, no nothing, no anything, there was not a dry eye in the house. The musical really works live.”

Meanwhile Benj Pasek, who co-wrote The Greatest Showman’s songs said: “One thing I think we are all so heartened by is the audience response and the fan response, and that it’s coming from people all over the world.

“We’re really thinking about whatever else could happen with this piece and with these songs, these performances.

“How can we get it to those people who have championed it and who have, in a way, made it theirs? How can we give something else back to them?”

Earlier this week Jackman responded to hearing The Greatest Showman soundtrack album had gone platinum with a video on Twitter.

Speaking in a selfie video, the 49-year-old star said: “So I just found out that The Greatest Showman album went platinum!

“I’m like ‘Whhhaaattt?!’”

“That is unbelievable. I’m blown away. I’m so grateful to you all. Your support means everything to me.

“So thank you so much for getting behind this soundtrack and getting behind this movie. Thanks!”
