The Greatest Dancer: 'Did Cheryl mess that up?' Viewers SLAM live show opening

The three dance captains took to the stage with their acts to open the first live show in spectacular fashion.

They could be seen separated on stage before they came together at the front to perform a number of dance moves.

Their acts then all joined them to dance individually with their mentor.

However as Cheryl, Oti and Matthew began to perform, viewers were quick to comment on their routine with some claiming the Fight For This Love singer “messed up”.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer shared: “Shocking timing issues #thegreatestdancer.”

Another asked: “Did Cheryl mess that up?? #thegreatestdancer.”

“@CherylOfficial is the judge / captain of a dance competition and she forget the opening dance… #thegreatestdancer,” a third wrote.

A fourth continued: “Did cheryl just go wrong at the start of #thegreatestdancer.”

While many focussed on Cheryl’s performance there were plenty of fans who praised the BBC series’ opening.

“Wow! What a start #thegreatestdancer,” one viewer tweeted.

Another added: “Loved the intro to tonight’s #TheGreatestDancer! Awesome to see the judges up dancing too!”

A third shared: “Well that’s the best intro into a show I’ve ever seen! #thegreatestdancer.”

Tonight’s performance will see the final nine acts take on their first challenge live in front of a studio audience.

Cheryl’s acts for this evening are FroBacks, Dane Bates Collective and Harry and Eleiyah.

Matthew is mentoring James and Oliver, Company Jinks and Prospect Fraternity.

Meanwhile Oti has been coaching Ellie, Globe Girls and KLA.

Ahead of the episode, Cheryl said she was confident her acts could make it to the final.

She said: “My acts are so versatile. They are going to do things the other dance captains don’t even know they

can do yet!

“My job is to take the challenges that are thrown at us and convert that into what represents each act best, encouraging and pushing the best out of them to surprise the people at home.”

The Greatest Dancer airs Saturday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
