He also recently starred in BBC period drama Howard’s End which aired last year.

Speaking about what first attracted him to the role of James, the 22-year-old said: “It was dark and it was funny, and those are my favourite things.

“I enjoyed how James was sort of split down the middle, and how much sometimes he was really what he was saying he was, and how much was covering for something else.

“And I knew that Jess Barden was playing Alyssa, and the two of them, James and Alyssa, made sense together in my imagination.”

Meanwhile, Jessica Barden portrays the equally kooky Alyssa, who seems to be struggling with some anger management issues.

Will there be another season of The End of the F***ing World?

The Channel 4 show first hit screens in October last year but it’s been since its Netflix premiere that the show has really taken off.

Express.co.uk has contacted Channel 4 to find out if the show has been recommissioned.

Season one of TEotFW was shot in April 2017 and aired six months later, if the programme is renewed it could be on television as early as October this year.

Given the success of the show and popularity with viewers – it’s now got a 100 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes – season two is a possibility.

The End of the F***ing World season 1 is available to watch on Netflix now.
