The Dirt is already being touted as the next Bohemian Rhapsody. The biographical musical comedy-drama film was directed by Jeff Tremaine from a screenplay by Rich Wilkes. Netflix‘s new musical biopic is based on Mötley Crüe’s collaborative autobiography.
When is The Dirt out on Netflix?
The Dirt was released globally on Netflix on Friday, March 22, 2019, and is available to stream now.
But The Dirt has been languishing in development hell since 2006.
Film rights were first bought by Paramount and MTV before being dropped, then by Focus Features, and then dropped again.
Finally, Netflix bought the rights in 2017 and filming began in February 2018 in New Orleans.

Who stars in The Dirt?
The cast of The Dirt includes Douglas Booth (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as Nikki Sixx, Mötley Crüe’s bassist.
Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) stars as Mick Mars, Mötley Crüe’s guitarist, while Colson Baker plays Tommy Lee, Mötley Crüe’s drummer.
Daniel Webber (The Punisher) stars as Vince Neil, Mötley Crüe’s lead vocalist, and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) is cast as Tom Zutaut, an Elektra Records executive.
David Costabile (Billions) completes the main cast, starring as Doc McGhee, Mötley Crüe’s longtime manager.
Other cast members include Leven Rambin as Vince’s eventual wife Sharise Neil, Kathryn Morris as Nikki’s mother Deana Richards, Rebekah Graf as Heather Locklear and eventual ex-wife of Tommy, Tony Cavalero as Ozzy Osbourne, Max Milner as Razzle, drummer of Hanoi Rocks, Jordan Lane Price as Roxie, Tommy’s first fiancé, Christian Gehring as David Lee Roth, lead vocalist of Van Halen, Anthony Vincent Valbiro as John Corabi, Mötley Crüe’s second lead vocalist after Vince’s departure from the band, Kamryn Ragsdale as Skylar Neil, Courtney Dietz as Athena Lee, a musician and Tommy’s younger sister, Joe Chrest as David Lee, Tommy’s father, Elena Evangelo as Voula Lee, Tommy’s mother, Michael Hodson as Randy Feranna, Nikki’s half-brother, and Joshua Mikel as Nikki’s friend and who sells heroin.

What is the plot of The Dirt?
The Dirt tells the story of the misfits of Mötley Crüe as they rise from the streets of Hollywood to the heights of international fame in the 1980s.
The autobiography, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, was written collaboratively by Tommy Lee, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Nikki Sixx, and New York Times writer Neil Strauss.
In comparison to the film, the book had a better reception from critics.
So far, the film holds only a score of 45 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
