Ben Green, a 21-year-old psychology student from Guernsey was appearing on the show, but was not expecting the newest chaser Jenny Ryan to brand him “baby-faced”.
The Vixen returned to her seat for the third player of the day and remarked: “It’s baby-faced Ben.”
Ben laughed and said: “Chubby cheeks,” but it was unclear who his reply was aimed at for 56-year-old host Bradley Walsh.
The presenter looked shocked and quipped: “That’s a bit unnecessary!”
Fans of the hit ITV show instantly took to Twitter following the chubby cheeks remark.
One viewer tweeted: “When the player calls the chaser chubby cheeks #TheChase,” as another posted: “#TheChase love how people are savage AF! #TheChase before a third added: “That’s too deep, allow calling my Vixen bae Jenny Ryan chubby cheeks #TheChase.”
It comes as fans were made to turn their television audio off as 42-year-old contestant Helena, a trainee teaching assistant, clapped, cheered, and made strange noises throughout the programme.
Jenny joked: “I’ll need to catch you, you might just explode!” as Bradley said: “I’ve never seen anyone so excited!”
Sailing through to the final chase, the Vixen added to Helena: “I almost put my fingers in my ears when that question came up. I knew you’d get it.”
One viewer tweeted: “I’ve muted the television #TheChase,” before another posted: “She needs to chill the f**k out!… What’s with all the facial expressions? Lovely impression of a sea lion #TheChase.”
A third wrote: “She’s even loud when it’s not her bloody turn. Stop clapping your hands! #TheChase,” as a fourth said: “#TheChase do the producers specifically advertise for irritating contestants now?”
