The Apprentice returns for its 13th series with 18 new candidates ready to tackle Lord Sugar’s challenges.
This year’s bunch are the first to enter the boardroom since Brexit proceedings got underway, which Lord Sugar mentions in the first episode.
“We’re in strange times now, with Brexit,” he tells the candidates.
“But be under no illusion, in this process I’m the one who decides who’s going to remain and I’m the one who decides who’s going to leave – simple as that.”
Lord Sugar is joined in the boardroom by business heavyweights Karren Brady and Claude Littner, who will help him put the 18 contestants through their paces.
This year features a diverse bunch of entrepreneurs from the worlds of fashion, floristry, law and more.
Each week they will be split into two groups to tackle tasks that are “bigger than ever”, as Lord Sugar challenges the contenders to prove they can handle today’s tricky economy.
This year’s challenges include creating a range of creating a range of burgers, branding and selling robots and running a doggy day care.
After each task one or more will be fired as the candidates compete to win a £250,000 investment for their business and Lord Sugar as their business partner.
Who is Elizabeth McKenna?
At 39, Elizabeth is this year’s oldest – and most eccentric – contestant.
The florist chain owner describes herself as a “slightly bonkers country girl” who loves dogs and horses.
She says: “My big feet are good for two things: getting me into trouble as they’re as big as my mouth and I constantly get them stuck in it, but they also kick butt.”
Elizabeth considers herself a hands on, practical person, and says that her “killer business instincts” and “shoot from the hip” mentality make her a strong decision-maker.
