Terror attack: Dermot O’Leary dedicates The Nightly Show to London in touching monologue

The shocking incident at Westminster has now left four victims dead with some still in a serious condition.

The 43-year-old presenter opened the show with a touching monologue where he adamantly outlined that the city will not be changed by the awful attack.

At the beginning of the episode he said: “Before we start the show, the terror attacks yesterday happened just a mile away from here where we film The Nightly Show.

“Tonight, we’re dedicating our show to London – the people who live here, the people who visit here and the people who work hard to keep us safe here.”

Dermot continued: ”People say London isn’t Britain, but to be honest, I think it is.

“Being a Londoner has nothing to do with whether you’re born here, your colour of skin or faith you follow. It’s about acceptance, tolerance, stoicism and respect.

“It’s about millions of people being able to live side-by-side day-by-day in an exciting, vibrant, infuriating, beautiful city.”

“And as awful as yesterday was, we know that we will endure, my, and it is just my humble opinion, it will make us stronger.”

He concluded: ”We will go on living, working, playing, moaning and queuing together. From us here at The Nightly Show tonight, here’s to London and here’s to home.”

His opening speech was branded by viewers as “heartfelt” and “spot on” as those watching the show rushed to social media to praise the X Factor presenter.

One Twitter user wrote: “@radioleary Never thought I’d say this but #thenightlyshow actually got something right tonight. Opening monologue was spot on.”

“@radioleary absolutely smashed that on #TheNightlyShow… Couldn’t have said it better… Here’s to London, here’s to home #WeAreLondoners,” commented another.

A third said: “Dermot O’Leary just saved the Nightly Show with that. Heartfelt and just right. Well done chap. #NightlyShow.”

The Nightly Show continues with Gordon Ramsay as host next Monday on ITV at 10pm.
