The pair were chatting to Nadia Essex about “micro-cheating” and what it involves when the 43-year-old made the shocking confession.
She revealed that commenting on an ex partner or friend’s photo with a certain emoji could be taken the wrong way and people should be careful about what they choose to use.
Discussing which emojis were appropriate to use, Ben was left stunned when he was warned not to use vegetable pictures.
Nadia explained: “An emoji speaks a thousand words. I have dumped guys in the past for using the wrong emoji.”
“No you haven’t!” Ben exclaimed. “For god’s sake.”
Nadia continued: “Anything vegetable-esque, like the aubergine.”
“The aubergine?” Ben asked. “It’s one of my friend’s favourites. She sends me an aubergine all of the time.”
The 36-year-old barked: “Tell her to stop.”
“Are you serious?” Susanna snapped. “Oh my goodness. I’m with Nadia on this.”
A shocked Ben replied: “But it’s an aubergine! What’s the implication?”
After a later advert break, he said he was “still reeling” from the revelation that the aubergine should not be used on social media.
“I’m never going to be able to look at an aubergine again,” he said.
It came after he admitted to “micro-cheating” with viewers as he cheekily told Susanna and Kate Garraway that he was sending them winking emojis on Twitter.
“I’m liking their tweets, they’re sending me little winks,” Ben commented. “I’m in big trouble if this is a real thing.”
