Weatherman Alex Beresford was presenting today’s forecast from the roof of the ITV studios when Susanna demanded that he prove there wasn’t a green screen behind him.
“Alex it looks like you haven’t gone to the roof at all and you’re in front of a green screen and by the magic of television we have put the scene of London behind you,” she told him. “Can your prove you’re on the roof?”
Alex was more than happy to oblige asking the cameraman to zoom out to show the landscape behind him.
“Of course yeah. Ed please do show them exactly where we are this morning,” the 37-year-old asked.
“We are definitely on the roof of ITV. I know it looks surreal but I’m really out here in the cold as much as I would like to be inside in the warmth with you.
“I reckon we should send Piers [Morgan] up here. That’s what we should do actually.”
But as the camera zoomed out to show Alex was standing on the roof, it was revealed that he had to stand on a plastic box in order to fit in the shot.
“Oh, we’ve just ruined your height because you’re actually standing on a box,” Susanna, 47, noted.
She went on to apologise for exposing the backstage secret, quipping: “Sorry about that. That wasn’t my intention.”
Co-host Piers also made a dig at the weatherman’s height as he chuckled: “What we’ve also shown is that you are absolutely tiny and have to stand on a box.”
“That was so that we could get the shot right,” Alex insisted.
