The Super Smash games have always been about fun and learning which characters you click with.
And lucky for us, there’s always a long list of them to choose from.
This is something fans can look forward to when Super Smash Bros officially joins the Nintendo Switch games list too.
While we don’t know the full roster yet, it has been confirmed that franchise staples like Mario and Link will be included.
The Splatoon Inklings are also going to make an appearance, and we can probably expect the return of Kirby and company.
But what about characters who aren’t part of the Nintendo family?
Smash on Wii U had a total of 58 playable characters when you included those made part of the game as DLC.
Mega-Man and Sonic the Hedgehog have been some of the third-party stars in the past and we already know a few companies that are good to see their characters included this time round.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has backed including Banjo and Kazooie in Super Smash for the Nintendo Switch.
This is something he was open to when the Wii U was putting together a list of DLC characters, so it seems his mind hasn’t changed since.
Other companies open to seeing their character appearing in the latest franchise release is Funimation.
The anime company asked Nintendo on Twitter if Dragon Ball Z‘s Goku could be part of the lineup in 2018.
It would be the first time Goku had featured in the series and would prove a popular inclusion with fans.
“Hey Nintendo, When’s our boy Goku going to join the fight?” the official Funimation Twitter account asked.
This is no way means that either characters will be making an appearance in Super Smash this year, with much of the roster still unknown.
Super Smash Bros’ Nintendo Switch release date could coincide with the launch of the Online Service in September.
Likewise, the upcoming Nintendo brawler may take inspirtation from Overwatch in how it delivers new content.
That’s according to the panel on IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, which has been discussing the new game on Switch.
The hosts of the podcast believe that Smash Bros would be the perfect game to launch alongside the new Online Service.
It’s also argued that Smash Bros could launch with a smaller roster, and then add characters, modes and maps in a similar way to Overwatch.
As an incentive to subscribe to the online service, it’s suggested that members would receive new characters for free when they’re released.
The Games as a Service model would also keep fans interested over a longer period of time.
