When is the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special 2017?

This year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will be aired on BBC One on Christmas Day (Monday, December 25) at 6.30pm.

The BBC show all run for one hour and 15 minutes as former contestants on the dancing series return for the festive episode. 

Strictly Come Dancing’s Yuletide instalment will be the last one of the year from the series, before the show makes its return in September next year.

The episode of the BBC show was filmed back on November 29 this year at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.

Who will be performing on the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special 2017?

There will be six famous faces taking part in the Christmas special: Robbie Savage, Katie Derham, Jeremy Vine, Kimberley Walsh, Judy Murray and Colin Jackson will be performing on the programme. 

Robbie Savage

Robbie Savage will be dancing with Dianne Buswell in the Christmas special.

He appeared in series three of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2005.

The footballer, 43, was originally paired with Ola Jordan and was voted off in week 10.

Speaking about returning to Strictly Come Dancing, Savage said: “I’m delighted to be part of the Strictly Christmas Special. 

“It’s been six years since I was on the show and I am still as bad as I was then! I’m looking forward to getting back on the Strictly dance floor.”

Katie Derham

BBC Proms presenter Katie Derham has been partnered with Brendan Cole.

The 47-year-old broadcast appeared in series 13 back in 2015 and danced with Anton Du Beke.

She was eliminated in week 13, shortly before the finals.

“Being parachuted onto planet Strictly two years ago was the most joyful, challenging but hilarious and brilliant thing I’ve ever done,” she said.

The host added: “I cannot wait to dust off the sequins and get back in the training room.”

Jeremy Vine

Jeremy Vine will be gracing the Strictly dance floor with Karen Clifton once again.

The couple first danced together also in series 13 in 2015, sadly he got the chop in week eight. 

“Me? Dance again? Yes, yes, YES!!! Now where are those shoes? Let me clean the dust off,” the Newsnight and BBC Radio 2 presenter exclaimed.

Kimberley Walsh

Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh will be reunited with Pasha Kovalev on the Christmas special.

The couple went all the way to the season 10 final in 2012 but Walsh, 36, ended up becoming a runner-up and lost out to Olympian Louis Smith.  

Walsh remarked: “I am absolutely thrilled to be getting my dancing shoes on again for the Strictly Christmas special. 

“I loved my time on Strictly so much so it’s going to be wonderful to be back in the Strictly bubble for Christmas!”

Judy Murray

Mother of Wimbledon champion Andy, Judy Murray, will be showing off her moves with Strictly Come Dancing professional newcomer Neil Clifton.

The 58-year-old was partnered with Anton Du Beke back in series 12 in 2014 and she made it to week eight before getting eliminated.

“I’m thrilled to bits to be part of Strictly’s Christmas Special. I promise to be every bit as bad as before and to enjoy it every bit as much,” Murray joked.

Colin Jackson

Colin Jackson will be showing the nation his fancy footwork again, this time with Amy Dowden.

The 50-year-old athlete first took part on Strictly Come Dancing in series three in 2005 when he danced with Erin Boag. 

He was a runner-up behind fellow sportsman Darren Gough who won the series that year. 

Reflecting on coming back, he said: “I am thrilled to be returning to Strictly for this year’s Christmas Special. 

“Some time has passed since I danced my way to the final, however I’m looking forward to dusting off my dancing shoes and returning once again.”

What will happen in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special 2017?

According to an episode summary on the official Strictly Come Dancing website: “Six favourite stars of Strictly past return to the ballroom to compete for the Christmas trophy. 

“Robbie Savage, Katie Derham, Jeremy Vine, Kimberley Walsh, Judy Murray and Colin Jackson and their professional partners each perform a routine inspired by what they love most about Christmas. 

“From opening presents to decorating the tree, from putting up the lights to being reunited with loved ones, all that is wonderful about Christmas is celebrated in the Strictly ballroom.

“Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman host, and the judges are on hand to dish out plenty of Christmas cheer. 

“There are also two amazing group routines featuring all the couples, a trip to Buckingham Palace for a very special tea dance hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall and music from the Kaiser Chiefs – it’s a special show packed with all the magic of Christmas.”

Once all the couples have performed the judges will choose a winner out of the celebrities and award them a special Christmas trophy.

Can I get tickets for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special 2017?

Unfortunately not, the pre-recorded show was filmed back in November.

Tickets to sit in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing and the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special are allocated via a random draw.

The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will air on Christmas Day at 6.30pm.
