Strictly Come Dancing bosses ‘fear hot weather could increase contagion chances’ on set

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have been through the works this year trying to pull together a show that will provide the nation with some much-needed glitz and glam amidst the devastating coronavirus pandemic. But new reports have suggested yet another obstacle has popped up, this time caused by the good old-fashioned unpredictable British weather.

Following a scorching couple of weeks where temperatures hit 37C in some parts of the UK, bosses are apparently fearing a second heatwave could cause problems in the studio.

A Strictly source reportedly told The Sun that in order to keep participants safe, the studio must be kept below 21C.

On Monday, the weather started to cool as in true UK style, the nation experienced dramatic rain and thunderstorms, but health-and-safety are apparently worried that the dancer’s increased sweat from the muggy weather will increase chances of catching coronavirus and it spreading on set.

The performers already break a sweat due to their vigorous routines under the hot studio lights, and one can’t imagine doing all that on top of the sweltering heat.

A spokesperson said: “The safety of our cast and crew is of the utmost importance to us,” while promising updates in due course.

It is believed restrictions will also include no live audience, with sources claiming that it would be “impossible to safely socially distance audience members”.

It has also been said that the show will be run with a skeleton crew much like many other productions, to minimise the risk.

A BBC insider reportedly told the publication that show executives are “devising 100 different formats” to prepare for the rules to change again.

“Preparing for this year’s show is a huge headache,” they said.

“The goalposts keep moving, so the big decisions are being left to the last minute so we’re as up to date as possible.”

They added: “The slightest change to the rules could have a massive impact on how the show is filmed.

“Many [celebs] are weighing up their options, so Strictly still doesn’t have a full line-up.”

Strictly returns later this year.
