Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Victoria Derbyshire breaks silence on line-up: 'Life's short'

The 48-year-old broadcast journalist won a BAFTA TV Award last night for News Coverage, but made a shock announcement about whether she will be taking to the dance floor later this year.

Unaware she had even been linked to the BBC One TV show, Derbyshire said that she wouldn’t turn down the chance to take part if it was offered.

Asked if she would be appearing amid the rumours, she told Express.co.uk: “Has it? Since when? Look, listen. That is my editor laughing her head off. No, no, no. Where? Where? Where? Come on!”

Revealed that the speculation surrounding her future appearance started at the end of the last series, the presenter replied: “Oh god! That means nothing.”

When asked if it would be something she would consider, Derbyshire paused for a moment before explaining: “Life’s short, life’s short!”

Commended for her awards night ball gown, she added: “If only it was only about frocks!”

The daily news and current affairs host also revealed that winning a BAFTA means a lot to her after her past year and a half battle with cancer.

Derbyshire continued: “Oh gosh. It’s obviously amazing. But cancer is a totally different thing.
