Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Simon Rimmer admits he was ready to QUIT moments before debut

Simon, 54 – who performed the Paso Doble to Song 2 by Blur with partner Karen Clifton – was asked by co-host Tim Lovejoy, 49, how nervous he was just before he was about to take to the dance floor.

Tim quizzed Simon: “What was it like 10 seconds or a minute before you were going on?” to which he replied: “Genuinely…if they’d said to me ‘listen, you don’t have to do this you know you can go home…’”

Guest Gok Wan, 43, then jumped in: “[Was it] like jumping out of a plane?” as Simon insisted: “Yes, that’s exactly what it feels like! You just feel that terror. You think ‘what am I doing?’”

A shocked Gok went on: “You’re literally giving me butterflies. I can’t even imagine, as Tim joked: “Yes, but when you’re as talented as this man!”

After Simon had performed his racy routine last night, judge Craig Revel Horwood admitted he was rather shocked when the whips ended up coming out.

The Strictly Come Dancing favourite said: “Well there was a lot of just standing there like this darling and a lot of mean sort of stomping around as well with absolutely no quest for a Spanish line or anything like that.”

He continued: “So it did lack a lot of shaping, and this is all about shaping.

“The moments of whipping yourself, I was slightly unnerved by, but if that’s what you’re into darling…then good luck with it all really!”

Simon scored a grand total of 17 points, the lowest score on the leaderboard being one below at 16.

Sunday Brunch continues next Sunday at 10.45am on Channel 4, while Strictly Come Dancing airs at 6.45pm on BBC One.
