The 41-year-old – who is best known for playing the role of Raffaello ‘Raf’ di Lucca in BBC One’s medical drama Holby City – is set to take to the dance floor alongside Mollie King, Davood Ghadami, Ruth Langsford, Gemma Atkinson and Reverend Richard Coles.
The Scottish actor gushed about joining the much-loved show: “Strictly is one of the biggest, most entertaining shows on TV and being asked to be part of it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’m thrilled and terrified about in equal measures!”
Joe first came to national attention playing PC Joe Mason in Heartbeat and has also appeared in Take the High Road, The Crow Road and Sex, Chips & Rock ‘n’ Roll.
In addition to his television roles, Joe also has a background in theatre appearing in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Rent in London’s West End.
The latest news comes after Rev. Richard Coles was confirmed as the fifth star to be strutting his stuff on the dance floor yesterday, as he appeared on Chris Evans’ Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
Richard joked: “It was an easy decision to make, because obviously a major dance talent was to be discovered. [I’m] in it to win it!”
He continued: “I’ve cut down on pork pies…my partner has practically put a padlock on the fridge!”
The journalist also said: “Cometh the hour, cometh the overweight Vicar with arthritis in his knees.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns next month to BBC One.
