Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Giovanni Pernice nearly SMACKS Debbie McGee

The couple were talking to host Claudia Winkleman after their place in the semi-final was confirmed when they had the near-miss.

Giovanni, 27, was wildly gesticulating and swaying from side to side from when he just missed banging heads with the former magician’s assistant, 59.

Debbie McGee had to put a hand on Giovanni’s leg to warn him that he needed to tone down the excitement a notch.

Speaking about making it a step closer to the Glitterball Trophy, Debbie said: “I mean to get through to the semi-finals is just enormous. It just feels incredible.”

When asked how they would tackle both the Jive and the Foxtrot, Giovanni explained: “We’re going to do maybe the Jive first because it’s my favourite to give us a big push and afterwards the softness of the Foxtrot.”

Even though they were ecstatic, the Strictly Come Dancing pair also seemed nervous about taking on two new dances which they would have to master in the space of a week.

The hilarious scenes come as Debbie broke her silence on a Giovanni marriage tweet after comedienne Miranda Hart posted on social media: “I love them all but I am fully Team @thedebbiemcgee I want her to win. I want her to marry Giovanni. And bank holidays for both occasions.”

Speaking to her co-host on her BBC Radio Berkshire programme this morning, Debbie laughed as she said: “That was hysterical. I’ve always been a fan of Miranda’s and she’s so funny.”

She added: “I read that very late last night and it really made me giggle.”

There are now just five couples left in the competition and they will all have to perform two dance routines as part of the competition.

This evening saw EastEnders star Davood Ghadami become the 10th star to be eliminated from the competition following an emotional dance off with Alexandra Burke.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One next Saturday at 6.45pm.
