Strictly Come Dancing 2017: Debbie McGee unhappy with tonight's routine for THIS reason

The 59-year-old former magician’s assistant amazed the judges and viewers alike with her breathtaking Charleston last weekend, scoring a staggering 39 points.

With the pressure on to keep her top spot on the leaderboard, however, the Strictly Come Dancing star has confessed that her routine this week isn’t ideal for her.

Revealing that she is thankful that the Tango means she won’t be “thrown around too much” after pulling off the Charleston’s many ambitious lifts last week, Debbie McGee announced: “We’re dancing to The Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling, which may sound like a strange choice, but the musical arrangement for it is brilliant and really works.

“I prefer traditional music for the Tango, really,” she said, explaining her slight dissatisfaction with the choice of song.

Luckily, Debbie conceded that, although it might not have been her favourite to dance to, the music does work for the routine she and her Strictly partner Giovanni Pernice, 27, will be doing, writing in her Daily Telegraph column: “But this track has light and shade, which is exactly what you need for this style of dance.

“It’s got plenty of staccato, but there’s tender moments too,” she added.

Debbie also came clean about suffering with injuries after their impressive Charleston, revealing that she has pulled muscles in her back and Giovanni had damaged his shoulder in the process of performing the acrobatic dance.

She added that the pain was “worth it” to have been crowned the Queen of Latin by Shirley Ballas, 57, when the head judge handed over her imaginary crown in awe after watching the routine.

Former Strictly winner Ore Oduba, 31, recently tipped Debbie to make it all the way to the final, praising her for starting to string together a run of shows at the top of the leaderboard.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.50pm on BBC One.
