Jeremy Kyle, 52, and Kate Garraway, 50, announced the exciting news on today’s Good Morning Britain.
Charlotte shared: “I’ve kept it a secret from everyone, I’m really sorry.
“I was like ‘in my dreams, I wish!’ So, surprise! I do a bit of dancing around my kitchen with my two-year-old, but I’m not sure that counts,” she added, when asked about prior dance experience.
Charlotte also said: “I am so thrilled to be one of the contestants on Strictly this year! I’ve always been a big fan of the show. It is a dream come true to be taking part and I’ll be following in the footsteps of my Good Morning Britain colleagues. I’m looking forward to stepping out from behind the news desk to cha-cha-cha my way across the dancefloor!”
The newsreader and journalist – who is one of the anchors on GMB – worked at Sky News for seven years on Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes and also hosted her own daily show of breaking news and interviews. She anchored Sunrise Live at the Olympics and presented coverage of the Diamond Jubilee and Royal Wedding.
Charlotte began her broadcasting career with ITN in 1999 as a newsreader and reporter for LBC Radio. She then moved to ITV Meridian in the southeast where she hosted the current affairs series, The Big Story and later as co-anchor of their main news programme Meridian Tonight.
The 42-year-old will be joining comedian Susan Calman, 42, former Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson, 32, Holby City’s Joe McFadden, 41, Reverend Richard Coles, 55, Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer, 54, and JLS heartthrob Aston Merrygold, 29 to strut their stuff on the dance floor.
Their announcements followed The Saturdays’ Mollie King, 35, EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, 35 and This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford, 57.
It was also confirmed on Friday that Brian Conley, 56, will be donning those famous sequins, as well.
In a pre-recorded interview BBC Radio 2 interview, Brian joked: “All I want to do is impress the judges…Simon, Amanda and David Walliams.
“I can move, there’s no denying it! The last time I danced was in Hairspray, so give me a fat suit and heels and I’ll be alright.”
“It’ll be no harder than doing a West End musical. [But] I’m 56 and I’ve got to pace myself a bit,” Brian continued.
The presenter added: “I’m delighted and honoured to be asked to strut my stuff on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. My family all love the show and can’t wait to see me do my dad dancing on national television. I know it’s going to be a lot of hard work but I’m up for the challenge, so bring on the spray tan and sequins.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return next month to BBC One.
