WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season two.
The young schoolboy (played by Noah Schnapp) was recused from the Upside Down by police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and mother Joyce (Winona Ryder).
In the season one finale Will coughed up a slug-like creature that escaped and went straight down the plughole into the Hawkins sewage system.
Now it looks like the creature is starting to grow and multiply as the Upside Down seeps into the real world.
At the same time, Will is markedly changed as the monster appears to have infected him and continues to transform him into something else.
Judging from symptoms Will is starting to display – including sweating and an aversion to heat – he could in fact be turning into the monster itself.
Could this be the end for Will? It’s certainly looking like Will could die as the monster starts to take over.
Given that Stranger Things is slated to run for several seasons to come yet, it seems too early for the monster to be defeated.
Is Will going to be killed by friends in an act of mercy before he’s taken over by the monster? The Demogorgon seems to be taking over his body and using him as a host with a telepathic link.
In fact, no one is safe and they could all meet a grisly at some point given the peril of the Upside Down.
A number of characters have come very close to death already, so it would make sense from a narrative perspective if someone does get the chop soon.
Otherwise the characters would appear invincible and Stranger Things would lose its element of danger.
However, producer Shawn Levy has said that fans shouldn’t expect to get all the answers from season two.
In a Facebook Live session from earlier this year, he explained: “We are going to do things that fans will ultimately be disappointed in but I think they will be more satisfied by.
“I’ll give one example that I’ve been asked about a hundred times which is people still think Barb’s alive.
“Because you think you want that but you wouldn’t really want that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Stranger Things season 2 is available to watch on Netflix.
