Star Wars news: Mace Windu FINALLY gets his own story – coming out THIS summer

Mace Windu, played by Samuel L Jackson, is the latest face from a galaxy far, far away to get his own series of comics.

It’s not quite the standalone spin-off movie that some followers have been calling for, but it’s certainly a sign that the character remains in the forefront of LucasFilm’s minds.

Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic — Mace Windu is a five-issue miniseries from Marvel, due on shelves in August.

Penned by Matt Owens and illustrated by Denys Cowan, it picks up after the start of the Clone Wars as the Jedi Order faces an incredible challenge.

Marvel’s official description reads: “For over a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the peacekeepers of the galaxy… but now, at the dawn of the Clone Wars, they find themselves in a new role: generals in the Army of the Republic.

“As Mace Windu, one of the Jedi’s greatest warriors, leads a small unit of Jedi into battle shortly after the war begins, the Jedi must make peace with their new role, or be lost to the violence around them!”

Samuel L Jackson, who played Windu in the prequel trilogy, called for the character’s comeback at Star Wars Celebration last month.

He was seen being flung from a building after a nasty fight with Chancellor Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith – but, crucially, we never saw the body.

“Mace Windu is awaiting his return, let’s make it happen,” the actor had said.

“All you gotta do is say the word, Kathy [Kennedy]!”

He added: “See you soon – on-screen I hope!”

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is out on December 15.
