The Last Jedi left fans on a huge cliffhanger.
It was not quite the literal cliff edge that finished The Force Awakens, but was still left the audience with far more questions than answers.
In a new interview, Brit star Boyega spoke about where the ninth movie is heading and gave a huge clue to the rumoured time jump that will fast forward the story a few years into the future.
Most thrillingly, he confirmed that “Episode IX… is going to be all out war.”
Boyega was asked about his preparations for starting filming Episode 9 in just a few months.
He said: “Next for me filming wise is Star Wars: Episode 9 in July, and they’ve officially given us a note to start training soon. I’m going to take a holiday before that, because I think Episode IX you know, regardless of where the story goes, and I haven’t read it by the way, is going to be all out war so I know that I’m going to have to do all I can and train for that.”
He may not give away any plot details, but the tease over a galaxy-wide war surely confirms the reports that the next movie will jump forward a few years.
STAR WARS 8: HOME ENTERTAINMENT RELEASE DATES AND DIGITAL, BLU-RAY AND DVD EXTRAS
This makes total sense for two major reasons.
First it goves the filmmakers a very simple solution to how to say goodbye to Leia. Without Carrie Fisher to film any death scenes, it will be more effective to explain that she has died offscreen, with early rumours suggesting that her passing will be attributed the huge drain her spectacular display of Force powers took on her frail body when she “flew” through space.
Second, it was made clear in The Last Jedo that no revbel armires or armadas were coming to help the beleaguered Resistance remnants. They will need time to build support, presumably aided by growing unease as Kylo Ren starts to exert his power on the fractured galaxy.
