Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi footage launched at CinemaCon – Here’s what was shown

Star Wars fans have to wait until mid-April for the first official teaser of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, but some very lucky people have had the first glimpse.

While it wasn’t a full trailer, Disney’s presentation saw a reel screened which included a scene from the new Star Wars movie featuring Rey.

Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta attended the event and summarised what he saw in a tweet.

He wrote: “Just saw a short glimpse of Star Wars: The Last Jedi footage in a sizzle reel.

“Rey holding the lightsaber ignited, and her moving the rocks.”

While this is barely a glimpse at the highly anticipated follow up to Episode VII:The Force Awakens, this information tells fans a couple of things.

Firstly it’s clear that Rey has begun her Jedi training, undoubtably under the supervision of Luke Skywalker on his exile planet of Ahch-To.

Secondly the news that she is moving rocks, presumably with the Force, is a harkening back to a scene in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, when Luke did the same thing during his training with Yoda.

No doubt as The Last Jedi is the second film in the sequel trilogy, it is running something of a parallel to the original trilogy’s middle movie.

Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will be released in UK cinemas on December 15, 2017.
