In recent years famous Star Wars fans have managed to bag themselves small blink-and-you’ll-miss it roles in the latest films.
While James Bond star Daniel Craig has played a stormtrooper alongside Tom Hardy, Prince William and Prince Harry, the directors have been appearing in each other’s movies.
The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was seen in the firing chamber of the Death Star in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One and has now returned the favour.
In The Last Jedi’s final act on Crait, Edwards is seen preparing to defend the Resistance’s stronghold.
The director plays a solider in the trenches, readying his gun. He stands next to another one who examines the surface of the planet and says: “Salt!”
Edwards also cameoed in his own movie, Rogue One, in the film’s final scenes.
Before the movie was released, he teased on Reddit: “I don’t want to give it away, but let’s just say he [my cameo] was probably the saviour of the entire rebellion.”
We now know he played the rebel solider who disengaged the Tantive IV spacecraft containing Leia and the Death Star plans, just before Darth Vader reached them.
Meanwhile Johnson is yet to reveal if he had a cameo in The Last Jedi.
Star Wars The Last Jedi is out now.
