Star Wars 8 news: 'Benicio del Toro is playing Vicrum Fett' – Is this BOBA FETT'S son?

We know so far that del Toro’s character is known as “The Man in Black” according to sources at the site Making Star Wars.

This is all suitably mysterious and intriguing but not exactly original. Apart from the obvious fact that Westworld already has a character called exactly the same thing, it is clearly a holding name until the big reveal is made.

One website has just found a filmography profile of the actor which lists the name of his character in The Last Jedi.

Back in 2015

He said: “Star Wars is coming up, we will see how that turns out. The thing is, they don’t let me talk too much about it. I’m, like, the villain.”

The Sith and Dark Jedi aren’t big on dynastic ties, but there is one family out there in the galaxy that always loves to play the bad guy.

Star Wars expert Mike Zeroh reports that wikiwand.com had a listing for the actor as ‘Vikrum Fett’ in The Last Jedi.

The post was almost immediately removed but use of clever Jedi mind tricks can still find traces online if you know where to look.

The character of Vicrum Fett has not appeared anywhere in the existing films, novels, comics or animated series. However, that surname is all too familiar.

Is Vicrum the son of Boba Fett?

We saw the bounty hunter as small child in the Attack of the Clones scenes where he helps his father Jango Fett escape Obi-Wan, before later watching Mace Windu kill him.

The actor apparently beat Joaquin Phoenix to the role and it looks set to an excitingly complex character, especially if he is playing a Fett with a grudge against the few remaining Jedi.

What make the casting news more interesting, and possibly more likely to be true, is the fact that the listing was almost immediately changed to “TBA” (To Be Announced).

This suggest that the site was asked to amend their information, which would usually only happen if it was revealing something it shouldn’t.

Nothing can be erased completely from the internet, of course, and Zeroh discovered that a general Google search still brings up the original link to the wikiwand article listing Benicio del Toro as Vicrum Fett in The Last Jedi.

Of course, nothing is certain yet, but we might find out for sure in a few months if the expected Last Jedi trailer appears at the Celebrations.
